Twelve Acre Approach, Bell Lane, Kesgrave, IP5 1JF (map)

The 66 & 66a bus from Ipswich & Martlesham passes the door 

Meetings are at 2pm, usually on the last Monday of the month (September - June) but there are exceptions.

Monday 30th September 2024: “The Dig” - Charlie Haylock
In his own inimitable style, this is about his work as a dialect coach,  on the film of the same name , with Ralph Fiennes and others on location at Sutton Hoo.

Monday 28th October 2024:  “ Memories of my Father” - Julian Kowalski
Julian’s Father was a decorated Polish pilot , finally based here in Suffolk flying alongside the RAF. This is his story.  ( Draft)

 

Monday 25th November 2024: “The History of Fish and Chips”- Andy Malcolm
The postponed talk  on the work of The Fishermen’s Mission, including humour, a fishy  quiz and sea shanties.

 

Monday 27th January 2025: “ Smuggling around East Anglia” - Andy Beharrell:
Looking at the golden age of smuggling in the 17th and 18th centuries . Examining what was smuggled and why and the creative methods used by the smugglers to evade capture. The various attempts to prevent smuggling are explored, and why they ultimately failed to prevent the smuggling gangs.

 

Monday 24th February 2025: Ipswich Airport Remembered - 
John learnt to fly with his University Air Squadron. He worked at B.T and then at London University but had a parallel career as a Flying Instructor at Ipswich.

 

Monday 31st March 2025:
“ To the Hammer Born” Confessions of an occasional auctioneer - Stephen Poulter
As a former auctioneer and on line dealer in antiques, vintage items and collectibles Stephen gives a historical perspective , with a fun quiz to end.

 

Monday 28th April 2025: “ Silence” 
An exploration of silence in its many forms, primarily as it affects human beings. He will look at many forms. Good and bad, voluntary or enforced, meditative and spiritual or repressive.
